GayDesertGuide.com Named Palm Springs Business of the Year by Desert Business Assocation
Gay Desert Guide, the online LGBT guide to Palm Springs, has been name Business of the Year by the Desert Business Association (DBA). Founder and Publisher Brad Fuhr will accept the award on Monday, March 9th at the organization’s annual installation and awards dinner.
Brad launched the website GayDesertGuide.com on Labor Day weekend 2013 after eight months of populating the site from scratch. He built partnerships and alliances with business groups including DBA, not for profits and government agencies to create a portal for both locals and visitors alike to discover the Palm Springs Oasis.
The website has received nearly a quarter million page views and has been accessed by nearly 70,000 users since its inception less than two years ago. Gay Desert Guide has a large social media following on Facebook and Twitter. He credits his success to not only the partnerships but also the many local businesses that have supported the site.
“Advertising on a new website can be a leap of faith,” said Fuhr, “but I was fortunate to have the support of many business leaders who knew me from my work with other media companies in LA and Palm Springs. They realized that consumers were going on their mobile devices, tablets and laptops to find nightlife, shopping, dining and attractions. No longer were magazines and yellow pages being utilized as in the old days of media.”
“In creating GayDesertGuide.com, I used my many years in digital, radio and publishing to build a local brand that provides everything from a business directory to a happy hour finder,” said Fuhr who will accept the award with his parents attending the awards dinner.
“I am delighted to work side-by-side with our members as we continue to grow this great organization,” says Kerry Hendrix, DBA Executive Director. “We invite all of the business people who make up our diverse community to join us as we take the DBA to the next level of business networking.”
Gay Desert Guide is a mobile-friendly online guide to LGBT-friendly businesses, events and activities in the Palm Springs area.
