PrideFlight2018 fills Public Relations Post

Steve Murray - Smith joins PrideFlight2018 as head of Public Relations, Brand Development and Marketing

DJ Doran, Senior Pilot for PrideFlight2018, announced today that Steve Murray - Smith has joined the growing team at PrideFlight2018 (prideflight2018.com).

Smith has over 25 + years of public relations and marketing experience promoting The Florida Keys and Key West to domestic and international markets since 1997.  “I am delighted to welcome this talented new crew member to the PrideFlight2018 team,” said Doran. “ Steve will bring his unique ability to connect people to our project and his strong winning attitude and personality are assets that will complement other team members.   Steve is well known and respected in the tourism industry for his marketing efforts over 25 years, and has been recognized worldwide for his contributions promoting Key West by Community Marketing, Out & About Travel, VISIT FLA and as a board member, treasurer and president of the International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association.

“ I am honored to be a part of such a unique and exciting project such as this and look forward to working with DJ and his team to make it a reality,” says Smith.

In the late spring of 2018, Doran along with his crew will attempt to become the first openly gay pilot to circumnavigate the globe supporting LGBTQ communities, groups and organizations worldwide.

PrideFlight2018 will involve flying a WWII-era DC-3, fully restored to modern standards.

“The DC-3 is known for its superior airframe and reliability and revolutionized air transport in the 1930s and 1940s with its range of 1,500 miles,” says Doran.  “The airplane has long had a reputation of being rugged and reliable, which makes it the perfect plane for such a mission.” Doran said.

The mission will depart Indianapolis in the spring of 2018 with the first legs stopping in New Orleans, Key West, New York and Goose Bay Newfoundland before braving the dangerous flight across the North Atlantic to Glasgow via Greenland and Iceland. The total journey will be more than 15,000 miles.

About PrideFlight2018
PrideFlight2018 is a goodwill mission supporting LGBTQ communities, organizations and groups worldwide.  The flight is scheduled to depart Indy in the late spring/early summer of 2018 and make stops in select U.S. cities and over 30 countries.  PrideFlight2018 will also be an attempt by pilot DJ Doran to set a record by becoming the first openly gay pilot to circumnavigate the globe.  Doran and his crew will fly a restored WWII-era DC3 named “The Bag Lady” with rainbow stripes painted on the wings to clearly identify it as the PrideFlight2018 plane.

The project will be driven entirely through volunteer enthusiasm with the critical assistance of a Fundable campaign (http://www.fundable.com/prideflight2018), media partners, individual supporters and an online store selling logo items.
